Professional development for technology applications teachers covers a host of possiilities. You may have found an exciting book that stimulates your thinking and improves your teaching practice. If you do, remember to share it in the forum or by having it added to the Resource Center. The same holds true for other media such as magazine articles and software tutorials. This informal learning is something that enriches our professional lives and improves our students' experiences in the classroom.
Of course, we also have a responsibility to engage in formal professional development in order to keep our skills sharp and improve our pedagogy. Your local Education Service Center can assist with this. Make sure to check with them routinely for available offerings in the courses you teach.
For those who teach technology applications at the high school level, materials are provided below for Desktop Publishing, Multimedia, and Web Mastering.
Desktop Publishing Academy
This three-day professional development framework is for teachers who will be teaching the High School Technology Applications Desktop Publishing course. Participants in this training will learn what Desktop Publishing is and is not, and will explore design through project-based activities. Photo retouching for desktop publishing will be addressed through the use of Photoshop.
Multimedia Academy
This Academy is intended for teachers who are new to teaching the Technology Applications Multimedia course, or have been teaching multimedia without any formal training. It is not intended to teach all of the applications that a multimedia teacher needs to know in order to teach the course, but to familiarize teachers with the concepts of multimedia that are needed to implement the multimedia TEKS.
Web Mastering Academy
The purpose of the Web Mastering Academy is to assist the Web Mastering teacher in implementing all concepts covered in the TEKS for the course. Lessons will be modeled and all participants will receive additional support materials that can be used in the classroom. Activities include the design and development of a working course web site for use when teaching Web Mastering.
